A documentation of Kingston’s experience with redevelopment of brownfields, including the scientific, technological, socio-economic, political, legal and planning aspects. Kingston’s goal is to be the “most sustainable city in Canada”. Brownfields redevelopment is one necessary step towards that aspiration. It turns abandoned, contaminated land and buildings into actively used properties that improve the environment, while generating businesses and jobs.
